I know this is a finance blog and this is a personal message, but I feel that I’m starting to build legitimate friendships and a sense of community here and that makes me comfortable discussing what is on my mind and heart at times. With that said, if wrote my standard “Market Conditions” today I would simply be doing you all a huge disservice.
The unfortunate events that occured on Friday shook me to my core to say the least. Over the past few days it has been difficult to conjure up any potential trades, analysis or financial article. During this time I’ve taken the time to reflect on what is truly important in life and I realized that sometimes I take what I have for granted. I wrote an article a while back about figuring out what you want out of life and I feel we’re at a point as a country where we need to look in the mirror and ask that same question (philosophically & economically).
I’m not going to politicize this post and spark a debate about gun control. Instead I would like to remind everyone what is likely most important to them… their families. I have an eighteen month old daughter who means the world to me and I couldn’t imagine losing her. As a parent, husband, blogger, investor, and business professional I play a lot of roles and run myself ragged on most days all to provide a better life for my family. Unfortunately if I am not too careful I become consumed by these roles and lose sight of the one thing that is motivating me to work so diligently.
Friends, hug your families today, look them in the eye and tell them how much you love them. You never know if this life will be here tomorrow.
My prayers go out to the families in Newtown, CT.
