- Are you just going to give up on retiring comfortably one day?
- Are you going to accept a meager life while you grow bitter and curse the “world” for putting you in this situation?
- Or should you take responsibility for your situation and make changes?
There are things in life that we can’t control. But we can 100% control the way we respond to them.
I believe, no, I am certain that anyone with average intelligence and a positive attitude can become debt free and wealthy if he or she is willing to work hard at it. But I also understand that when you are halfway through your life and are barely making ends meet, it seems like the only chance to become to wealthy is to win the lottery or purchase stock in the next miracle drug or tech company.
My mother and father both come from poverty stricken cities. They will openly admit that where they were raised the chances of them succeeding in life were slim at best. Having educations that I believe most will concede were below the typical standards of America at the time. Both of my parents had enough intelligence and ambition to join the military in order for the prospect of having a better life. I watched my mother and father raise my brother and I on enlisted soldier salaries for years. Now, my mother and father are by no means rich individuals but they worked hard, saved their money, and provided a safe environment for their children and gave them a great education. Which has allowed me to go to college, educate myself, learn a skill and gather a basic understanding of equities.
My point is, the first thing you must do is accept the fact that you alone are solely and completely responsible for your current financial situation. Before you react defensively or bite my head off, please read that sentence again. I didn’t say you are the cause of your situation. I said you are responsible for it and by taking responsibility for your current situation, you also assume responsibility for your future. Nobody can change your future but you. And nobody else will.
The sooner you accept this reality, the sooner you can start your road to wealth.
