Wealth Building Bricks – Session #4

Blog

Hope this week treated you all well! Sorry for the short note today but we’re heading out the door to an open house for a new childcare center down the street. As I’m sure most of you know Mrs. Brick By Brick stays at home with our daughter and is expecting our son in the next two weeks or so. Being a stay at home mom is tough in itself but pregnant while doing it is a whole other level. We decided a while ago to put our daughter in daycare part time so she can socialize with other children on a regular basis. Long story short the director of our current child care center is leaving and this brand spanking new academy just opened up down the street. It would save an hour of our day choosing this daycare.

Unfortunately though, this daycare must have been on some hallucinogenic drug when choosing their prices. A quick look of their brochure quotes an infant at $358/WEEK (part time isn’t available) & a toddler at $230/3 days. That would be $600 a WEEK, absolute insanity.

Bottomline we won’t be  applying to attend this academy!

Hope you all enjoy your weekend. I had to scour Youtube for some laughs after reading that brochure, here is the best one I found!

That’s crazy expensive. I bet they’ll learn fairly soon how to price accordingly….or they’ll be boarded up.

I remember the day my kids entered school and our daycare expenses went away. I felt like the richest man in the universe.

I’m thinking the same thing! I just want to know who has the money to pay those prices. I guess technically I can pay it but $600/week comes out to $31,200 a year. That’s college tuition!!!

It’s insane how expensive childcare is. My niece and nephew went to a Montessori daycare service based out of a woman’s home. She offered part time, you just needed to go at least twice a week to save a spot. It cost $40 a day, or $200 per week for an infant. Still expensive to me, but my brother in law was happy with her.

Oh my goodness! Montessori schools in our area run for $468/week it’s insane. If they want to fix the economy they need to subsidize daycare!

Thanks for the mention Marvin! It’s crazy how expensive most daycares are. A lot of them, at least in our area, do not take part timers and if they do it’s crazy expensive.

Yeah I guess part is taboo in the daycare realm. We really just want to get our children acclimated to other children without having to go all in. Oh well, looks like I need to open up a daycare!

Wow, I’ll be there soon, so that is scary pricing for daycare. We’ll find out more about that in the coming months!

It varies by area, let me know how your pricing compares, I’m curious. I joked with my wife on how I should call the FBI and report this white collar extortion!

Thanks for including me Marvin. Those daycare prices are nuts. I know daycare is expensive, but crap, you might have to sell one of your kids to afford to put the other in daycare. Insane!

Wow, those prices are insane! I don’t know how people with kids do it. It seems like even if both parents are working, practically one person’s entire paycheck is going toward child care. Crazy!

That’s pretty much how it is, we decided to have my wife stay home for the next couple years for that exact reason. No reason to waste the time and gas money when you just work to pay daycare!
